NEWS - PAGE 2 Current projects and news for summer 2008 include the purchase of two new Bounty Hunter metal detectors which are being used for teaching purposes. These detectors are also available to rent by the hour, day, week or take one on vacation with you and maybe pay for your whole trip.
The Staten Island Advance put RRR in the headlines on Sunday 06/22/08 (see article below) with a two page article about my organization, I can't thank them enough for the interest it has generated. Since then we were invited to the Tottenville Historic Society annual meeting on 06/27/08 (see Photos - page 5/5) to give a talk about Tottenville artifacts found. It was great and they are a very dedicated group, and, after the meeting, many members gave their info and want to have there properties searched. One has already been done.
Together with the Staten Island History Hunters metal detecting club, we have run two classes for kids. One at Gateway Park on 07/08/08 with the park rangers as part of their summer camp program (see Photos page 4/5), and the other at Pouch Camp on 07/15/08 for the same reason (See Photos page 5/5). Both were an overwhelming success. These classes could not have been done without our wonderful Staten Island History Hunters Club members - they are a great group that freely donate their time and I thank them all.
I have been granted access to Mount Manresa, a 12 acre site that dates back to 1910. They are interested in building a showcase with artifacts found on the grounds. I have also been granted permission to a new site being developed on Bloomingdale Rd. were an old school is going to be torn down.
It has been a busy month and sites are building up. I also have a couple of sites still undergoing research which is an endless but satisfying job. We will be updating again before fall, keep informed about detecting on Staten Island and keep in touch . Fred
