On Tuesday, July 8, 2008, the Staten Island History Hunters in conjunction with Richmond Research and Recovery trained boy scouts at the Pouch camp in the art of metal detecting.  It was a wonderful experience for our members as well as the scouts.

On Tuesday, July 15, 2008, the Staten Island History Hunters in conjunction with Richmond Research and Recovery trained Junior Park Rangers at Gateway National Park in metal detecting.  We all enjoyed the experience of teaching the youngsters.

As part of our New York State charter mandate, we are proud to announce the success of our first two classes in metal detection.  These were conducted as community services in cooperation with Richmond Research and Recovery, the Boy Scouts of America and Gateway National Park.

STATEN ISLAND HISTORY HUNTERS vs STATEN ISLAND YANKEES

Well, that’s not exactly correct but 29 SIHH members, family and friends did go to see our beloved Yankees get beat by the Brooklyn Cyclones on Monday, July 28, 2008.  Along with our group were members of New York Search and Recovery  as well as members of the Tottenville Historical Society (If Charlie Dunn had brought his bagpipes, I think we could have spurred our Yankees on to victory - maybe next time).

Our “all the food you can eat tickets” came in handy as well as the free Yankees baseball hats.  The weather was picture perfect for the game and we saw four “over the fence” home runs hit (unfortunately, three were hit by the Cyclones!)
