LAST MEETING NEWS - OCTOBER 29, 2008

     Our Oct. 29th meeting was a great one. Our Speaker was Patricia M. Salmon the Curator of History from the Staten Island Museum . She spoke about some of the 75 cemeteries on Staten Island how they got started and what became of them.

    After her talk, we held the elections of officers for 2009. Every one who is now in office was reelected for another year.

    Let’s welcome a new member to the club. Mr. Charles Salerno.  Thank you Charles and thank you for bringing part of your incredible collection of Civil War finds.  (See photos below)

     Another thank you goes to Steve Ciriaco for donating a 1940 walking liberty silver half dollar and a 1887-0 Silver dollar.  These will be raffled  off at our next meeting on November 19 at Sea View.  Steve also donated a case of coffee to compliment the bran new coffee urn that Valerie bought for the club.  To go along with her urn and Steve’s coffee, Valerie also brought all kinds of cakes, cookies, donuts and treats.  And to top it off, our very own Neil DeFeo brought in home made Patels.  This is a type of specialty cookie with an anise flavoring that you just don't forget. Thank you Valerie, Steve and Neil.

     Speaking of food, it was decided that our end of the year get together is going to held at Jimmy Max located at 280 Watchogue Rd.  The date is subject to change but for now it will be held on our regular January meeting date of Wednesday, January 28th 2009 at 7pm.  We will start to collect a $10.00 deposit at our next meeting.

     We also spoke about the dates of the meetings for the rest of the year.  November’s will be on the 19thand December’s will be on the 17th.  These dates are listed on the web site.
